For normal extruded fin tube, the tubes ends are with fin stripped off, leaving the tube surface just be bright and naked. But for some projects, the customer need to prevent the naked base tube from corrosion, so they will require that there be some muff aluminum tube to cover the base tube at two ends. This is also called unfinned sleeve or aluminum exension.
The base copper tube (copper grade can be C12200, C70600, C44300, CuNi70/30, CuNi 90/10) is inserted into the aluminum muff tube, through rolling process, the fins are extruded out of the aluminum sleeve.
After the finning process before stripping all the fins from base tube, part of finning will be removed by machining only the finning and then leaves an aluminum sleeve of about 0.5 to 0.8mm on the base tube.
The other fabrication process then is same as normal extruded fin tubes.
In this way, the complete tube will be covered with a layer of aluminum after installed in the air cooled heat exchanger header box. The aluminum sleeve will protect the base tubes from corrosion outside and then extend the lifetime of the whole air cooler tube bundle.
