Zenith Global Logistics has expanded its fleet with the purchase of 60 new 53-foot trailers and 10 Freightliner M2 straight trucks for local home deliveries.

Jack Hawn, president and CEO, said the investment for this new equipment is around $1.9 million, including $1 million for the trailers.

The purchase is in addition to the 40 regional and OTR (over the road) trucks and 80 trailers it added to its fleet last year. The company said the latest expansion will address growth in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states. Over the past few years, Zenith also has added regional hubs in Atlanta, Baltimore, Dallas, San Antonio, Tupelo, Miss., and West Palm Beach, Fla.

In 2011, the company boosted its North Carolina storage and handling capacity by 30% when it acquired a former Boyles Furniture facility in Conover for its new corporate headquarters and warehouse facilities.

"Over the past few years we've added both freight and home delivery hubs in multiple states, including Florida, Georgia, Maryland and Texas," Hawn said in a statement. "As our business continues to grow in these and surrounding markets, we've taken the next step by expanding our fleet to ensure we have both the freight hauling capacity we need as well as the straight trucks necessary to meet the requirements of our final mile customers."

Zenith is a specialized furniture carrier and international 3PL provider. In addition to operating its own truck fleet and transportation hubs, it has more than 3.5 million square feet of warehousing facilities in California, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Texas, Virginia and Washington.
